
Joel Foster

Joel attended Memorial University of Newfoundland, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts before moving on to study Education. He graduated with his Bachelor of Education in 2015 and then went back to complete his Master of Education (Counselling Psychology) in 2020. Since then, Joel has been working as a private mental health counsellor here in his home province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Joel is passionate about ensuring people feel safe and their stories are being heard during the therapeutic process. He focuses on techniques that put clients and their unique experiences first. His approach to therapy is Person-Centered and includes Existential, Mindfulness, Solution-Focused, and Cognitive-Behavioural methods. While Joel continuously expands his knowledge and practice, some of his areas of focus include anxiety, depression, existential angst and dread, grief and loss, issues in academics, and career uncertainty. He works with adolescents and adults in his practice.
Joel understands the importance of strong therapeutic relationships and the potential of everyone to improve their well-being through the counselling process. He understands that whatever someone’s journey toward mental well-being is, being heard, supported, and feeling safe is a priority.
In his spare time, Joel enjoys spending time with his partner, their son, and their dog. With a wide array of interests and hobbies from sports to video games to music, he loves to connect with people, learn, and create new experiences.
